Bronwen Baume-Tarrant 2021 TASITE Digital Technologies Educators of the Year Bronwen is a highly accomplished Digital Technologies Educator, currently serving as the Head of Digital Learning at Sacred Heart College, New Town in Tasmania. Her expertise in Digital Technologies extends across the entire K-10 spectrum, where she coordinates teaching and learning and provides guidance on all assessment requirements. She leads and coordinates the activities of the Digital Technologies department and prepares Digital Technologies Scope and Sequences aligned with the Australian Curriculum Version 9. Bronwen's contributions to the field of Digital Technologies extend beyond her school, as she is also a Master LEGO Educator for FIRST LEGO Australia. As a Regional FIRST partner in 2021, Bronwen played a critical role in growing the FIRST LEGO League Challenge competition in Tasmania, with 46 teams participating. She provided professional learning, program design, and support materials to engage Department of Education schools in the program, leading to 16 new DoE schools actively participating in the 2021 season. Bronwen's passion for Digital Technologies is evident in her work as a lead mentor for Devil Robotics, a not-for-profit after-school robotics program since 2018. Through this program, Bronwen has helped and supported students entering and participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST LEGO League Challenge, and other competitions. Bronwen believes in providing real-world learning opportunities for students, and her work at St Virgil's College and Sacred Heart College has been focused on this goal. She has worked across multiple departments to provide students with context-driven digital technologies experiences, such as utilizing coding skills to collect, manage, and manipulate data in science. She has also encouraged the use of drones to conduct research on the invasion of native plant species in the college's bushland. Bronwen's work as a LEGO Education Master Educator has seen her collaborating nationally and internationally on activity and course development to engage and inspire students. She has developed innovative and engaging learning programs, such as helping Grade 9 and 10 students design a digital thermal temperature tracker to help a less fortunate community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bronwen is a true pioneer in the field of Digital Technologies education and her passion and dedication to the subject has helped to inspire and engage countless students across Tasmania. |
